Bonsai - Japanese Zen Buddhism art form meaning “a tree that is planted in a shallow container". The ultimate goal of growing a Bonsai is to create a miniaturized representation of nature in the form of a tree or shrub. Techniques such as pinching buds, pruning and wiring branches, and carefully restricting nutrients are used to limit and redirect healthy growth into desired forms.
Bonsai is derived from the ancient Chinese horticultural practice Penjing - Chinese for a landscape or scene (jing) in a pot (pen).
